Women supporting women to get $#*! done ...

Calling all women who work part or full time from home, coffee shops and co-working spaces.
We welcome old friends and new from all around the world!
Over the pandemic, we’ve loved working remotely. Being out of the office and working in our PJ's from home or dressed for success at an airport or in jeans at our local coffee shop!

*And* … here's the problem .... Sometimes we need connection with other like-minded professional women.
We need a circle of friends who have our best interests at heart, to cheer us on and hold us accountable to our goals.
We need a sense of belonging in a space that feels like home. We need the possibility of collaboration with and mentoring from women who ‘get’ us.

And those are things we don’t always get, even in a large corporate office.

Being a professional woman can be a lonely road.

But it doesn't need to be that way ... The intention of 2X Coworking is to create a world apart, via virtual coworking, where women can define themselves and feel safe in the company of like-minded women, to take risks and to be celebrated wholeheartedly for their achievements.

Is this something that you'd find useful?

Hmmm … not sure. What's virtual coworking?
Generally, it's just coworking over a video call.

Virtual coworking is a global phenomenon that has radically expanded due to the pandemic. It has changed ‘how work gets done’ remotely.

Online coworking is an increasingly popular way for people generally to work together from different locations. It is a form of remote work that allows individuals and groups to collaborate on projects and tasks in a virtual environment.

2X Coworking is an online environment where women work on their own tasks, together in a Zoom group.

Why do virtual coworking?
Working on individual projects in a coworking setting has been found to inherently boost productivity so your work is done more efficiently.

By definition, the primary benefit of online coworking is that it eliminates the need for people to meet in the same physical space. This allows women to work from anywhere in the world, and it also reduces overhead costs associated with traditional offices. Additionally, online coworking provides access to a wide range of tools and resources that can help women to stay productive and connected.

Working together with other women can provide an additional level of unconscious ease. Women’s online coworking is especially beneficial because it allows women to work together in an environment that is free from gender bias. A space where you can completely and unapologetically be yourself and still feel liked and cared for.
Many women who are coworking with women they don’t know, still feel part of a circle of trust.
Women-only coworking spaces also provide organic ways to network and meet other like-minded women. 2X Coworking provides access to women who may already have developed experience or skills that can help others in their group succeed in their professional projects and personal interests.
But what exactly is it that creates the ability to be ‘at ease’ while coworking?

It comes down to the principle of co-regulation. Co-regulation happens when a person who is feeling unsettled tunes in to another person’s or multiple peoples more regulated state. The person who is feeling unsettled doesn’t need to be in the same physical space or for the other, more regulated, person or people necessarily to be doing anything intentional to for co-regulation to work.

In the context of 2X Coworking, this is the camaraderie that we feel when we cowork with women who have become our friends and confidants over time, even if we’re simply in a video session with our microphones muted.

Body doubling is a form of co-regulation. Body doubling is used as a productivity strategy in which another person works alongside you as you complete a task you might otherwise find challenging.
Having someone nearby, in real life or over Zoom, may help you stay focused, engaged, or motivated to finish the job. It works on the same principle as quiet study groups, walking buddies, and public workspaces: the principle that having company can make a hard task easier.

Sometimes, it seems that the experience of simply growing up female in a world that is set up to benefit middle class white men can be low-grade traumatising and dis-regulating; despite being more than 50% of the population, women can often be treated as second-class citizens. Women are tasked with fitting in with mainstream culture.
And even though it’s painful, one of the cultural rules is that we’re not allowed to show our hurt. Having a safe place to hang out with other successful women who are ‘doing their thing’ is balm for the soul.
Tasha Chemel, MSW, M.Ed is an executive function coach who has written extensively about the benefits of body doubling. She helps adolescent and adult clients, some of whom are neurodivergent, learn to plan, prioritize, and regulate their emotions.

“Often, (body doubles) are working on something unrelated or on a similar task. They may not be interacting with you at all, just working quietly,” Chemel says.

Coworking online with other women can be just as effective as having someone who is physically present.

So, how *do* you cowork?
We call coworking Zoom sessions our ‘hours of power’ where we start each session by stating our intention and then finish by sharing progress or achievements, for accountability.

At the start and end of the day, this may be done verbally as a group.

If you’d prefer to come and go while others are working quietly, if you did want accountability, that could be done by typing into the chat box.

We also have a shared Trello accountability board, if that’s the way you roll! Ask Jane for access, if this is of interest

The majority of the day is silent, with microphones off, to promote deep focus similar to studying in a library. However there are opportunities to join breakout rooms to collaborate with other members and exchange ideas for action or simply chat!

You can choose to be visible or remain private with your camera off.

There are also private 'breakout rooms" available, in case members want to talk to one another without disturbing other people who are concentrating.

Members can also access the chat to communicate with the whole group or direct message another member.
The 2X Coworking room is open 24/7. Since we’re based in Sydney, the coworking days currently run from 8 am to 5 pm local time Monday to Friday.
As more women from different time zones join, members from all over the world will gradually begin to be able to cowork together, around the clock. 🌎
